Boston University archaeologist William Saturno has found writings left by the Maya 1,200 years ago in an excavation site in Xultan, Guatemala. In case you were worried, they indicate that the Mayan "Long Count" calendar doesn't end on December 21, 2012, but simply continues to the next cycle of time in a potentially infinite series. So, if you have been putting your life on hold thinking it doesn't matter what you do...then get on it! Time is short, but not because the Mayan calendar is ending any time soon.
